Children might have to get their baby teeth removed by a dentist if it becomes severly decayed or damaged from an accident or injury. They could also end up having to get it removed to avoid overcrowding once their permenant teeth start to come out.
Reasons baby tooth extraction:
Overcrowding: If there isn’t enough room in the mouth for baby and permenant teeth to erupt correctly, a baby tooth might have to be removed to avoid your permanent tooth to pop out of the gums in an incorrect place.
Severe Tooth Decay or Damage: If your child has a cavity that has gone untreated for a long time, it can lead to tooth decay which can cause infection and pain. In some cases the tooths extraction might be neccesarry.
Infection or Abcess: Untreated decay can lead to an abscess (a pocket of pus) in the bone or gums, which must be removed to prevent spreading the infection throughout their mouth.
Over-Retained Baby Teeth: Sometimes, a baby tooth doesn’t fall out when it should, blocking the permanent tooth from growing in properly. This is called an over-retained tooth and might need to be removed.
Orthodontic Reasons: A dentist may recommend removig a baby tooth to facilitate treatment, such as correcting severe tooth crowding or misalignment.
