The difference between clean and sterile in dentistry

Posted .

A lot of people think clean and sterile mean the same thing, but they’re actually different, especially in a dental office.

Clean just means something looks nice and doesn’t have visible dirt on it. Like if a surface is wiped down, it’s clean. But that doesn’t always mean all the germs are gone.

Sterile is more serious. It means all bacteria and germs are completely killed. This is really important for dental tools that go inside your mouth, because they need to be 100 percent safe.

So basically, something can look clean but still have germs on it. That’s why dentists don’t just clean their tools, they sterilize them using special machines.

At our office, we make sure tools are not just clean but fully sterile before using them on patients. You can book with Dr. Abid Hidayat, we’re open Monday to Saturday. We also speak Gujarati, Hindi, Urdu, Tagalog, and Arabic. You can call 416 546 5599 if you need to book or ask something.
