Why wearing gloves alone is not enough

Posted .

A lot of people think gloves are enough to stop germs in a dental office, but that’s not actually true. Gloves help, but they only work when they are used the right way along with other safety steps.

The problem is gloves can still get contaminated during a procedure. If a dentist touches something dirty and then touches a clean surface, germs can still spread even if they are wearing gloves. That’s why gloves need to be changed between patients and sometimes even during treatment.

Also, gloves don’t replace hand washing. If hands are not cleaned before putting on gloves, germs can still be trapped inside or spread when gloves are taken off. That’s why hand hygiene is just as important.

Dental offices also need other safety steps like, sterilizing tools, and wearing masks. All of these work together to prevent infection, not just gloves on their own.

So basically, gloves are just one part of infection control, not the whole thing.

At our office, we follow full infection control steps, not just gloves, to make sure patients feel safe and comfortable during their visit. You can book with Dr. Abid Hidayat, and we’re open Monday to Saturday. We also speak Gujarati, Hindi, Urdu, Tagalog, and Arabic. If you want to book or ask anything, you can call 416 546 5599.
