CHILD’S FIRST DENTIST VISIT

Posted .

Do you know that “The Canadian Dental Association: recommends infants to visit
the dentist, within the 6 months of the eruption of the first tooth or by one year age.
The reason is to prevent any problem with his or her teeth.

Why Age One?

  • Early Detection: Even baby (primary) teeth can develop cavities. Identifying
problems early makes treatment less invasive.
  • Parental Guidance: Dentists can provide tailored advice on brushing
techniques, teething relief, and diet right from the start.
  • Growth Monitoring: A child’s mouth and jaw develop rapidly in the first few
years. Regular visits help track progress, ensuring teeth erupt correctly.

Dental hygiene for babies and toddlers:

In between regular dental visits, daily oral hygiene should be part of your baby’s
routine. That includes habits like:

  • Wiping baby’s gums with a soft cloth before they even have teeth.
  • Brushing baby’s teeth (or tooth, as the case may be) twice a day.
  • Using floss daily once your baby has two teeth that touch.
  • Discouraging thumb sucking.
  • Avoiding bottle feeding in bed.
  • Weaning from a pacifier around their first birthday.
  • Switching from a bottle to a cup when baby is about 18 months old.
  • Limiting sugar in your child’s diet.
