Step by step tutorial on how to brush and floss your teeth with braces using the charter brushing method!

Posted .

Step 1: Hold the toothbrush 45 degrees away from your gums, ensuring that the bristles go in-between your wires. Vibrate the toothbrush 10 times in each spot, making sure to cover all teeth.

Step 2: Now hold the toothbrush 45 degrees towards the gum line and vibrate 10 times. This cleans the plaque around the gumline as well as stimulates your gums. Swollen and irritable gums are common if brushing is not regular with braces.

Step 3: Use the heel-toe method to brush the inside of your front teeth. Hold the toothbrush vertically and hold the heel of the toothbrush to the teeth and brush down.

Step 4: Scrub the biting surfaces as usual.

Step 5: Grab a floss threader and thread it through the contact of your teeth.

Step 6: Grab both ends of the floss and hug it to the curves of the teeth. Bring the floss up and down a few times, make sure to clean under the gums until you feel a tug.

Step 7: Take the floss threader out and use a clean end to floss the rest of the teeth.

Step 8: You can also use the floss to clean around your wires.

It is important to have a lot more frequent visits to the dentist with braces to ensure your oral hygiene isn’t impacted. If the gums are too irritated from poor oral hygiene, braces may need to be removed to prevent further damage.
