What are mouth ulcers, causes and preventions?

There are many types of mouth ulcers, however, the most common is the aphthous ulcer. You probably know this as a canker sore. These are generally not harmful, just a little irritating.

The main causes of canker sores aren’t known however they could be due to acidic foods/beverages, stress and injuries to the mouth like cheek biting. Over the counter creams could be bougth for canker sores, however, they usually go away on their own in a few weeks.

If you notice a canker sore that has been there for more than a few weeks, you must consult your dentist to ensure it isn’t harmful. Cancerous lesions within the mouth can look as simple as canker sore so it is essential to regularly go to the dentist to detect any irregular lessions.
