What is dental abcess?

Dental abcess or a periodontal abscess is a pocket full of pus. Dental abscess has many causes and locations it can occur in. The most common is caused by a cavity that was left untreated and now the bacteria has reached the inside of the tooth and gums.

The bacterial pus accumulates in a pocket and creates a little bump. Most of these pockets feel warm and movable. If you feel a bump that is hard and unmovable, see your dentist immediately.

You may also experience pain, sensitivity, bad breath and a loss of appetite due to this. The bacteria may have impacted your teeth causing the nerves to feel pain and sensitivity. You can experience bad breath due to the bacteria that is accumulating in the abcess. The loss of appetite may occur due to the pus leaking, which can cause your mouth to have a bad taste.

It is important to regularly visit your dentist to inspect such lesions and prevent future dental abcess from cavities and infections.
