Why you should avoid crunchy foods while you have braces

You should avoid crunchy foods with braces to prevent damaging or dislodging the brackets and wires.

Biting into hard, crunchy foods can cause your braces to break, leading to the need for costly and time-
consuming repairs. Crunchy foods also tend to get stuck in hard to clean spaces within braces.

Damage to Braces: Hard, crunchy foods exert significant force that can bend wires, snap brackets off
teeth, or loosen bands, delaying treatment.

Increased Treatment time: Any damage to your braces will require an unscheduled visit for repairs,
which can set your treatment progress back and prolong the time you need to wear braces.

Higher Risk Of Cavities: Braces create more places for food particles and plaque to hide. Crunchy
foods, especially if sugary can get trapped leading to increased plaque buildup and tooth decay.

Discomfort and injuries: Foods like popcorn kernels can get stuck in the braces, causing irritation, or
can press into your gums and cheeks, leading to discomfort or even injury. Some examples of foods you should avoid are, popcorn, chips, nuts, crunchy taco shells, Raw, and hard vegetables like carrots and apples. You should try your best to avoid all these foods and anything similar to these. While you have braces you should focus on eating softer food to avoid problems with
your braces.
